The three-headed Madonna in a church outside the city walls of Perugia has raised some questions, maybe it has some Etruscan or pagan origin.
The abbey of San Pietro dates from 996, but it was built over an older church, going back to the 4th century. This version of the abbey dates from 1591–1621. Now it is part of the University of Perugia.
