The hotel opened in 1900 and had many famous guests and it featured in the Luchino Visconti’s film Death in Venice. The film was based on the Thomas Mann’s novella of the same name, inspired by his stay here in 1911. The hotel closed in 2010, so that it could be developed into apartments, but work hasn’t started.
