The Winter Garden was designed and painted by Fortuny.

The palazzo dates from the 15th century, built by the Pesaro family. In the beginning of the 20th century the Spanish painter and designer Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo bought it and lived in it. In 1965 it was bequeathed to the city of Venice and it now houses the Fortuny Museum.
