The Netherlands is a small country with a man-made landscape. The original river delta with bogland and woodland has been transformed by deforestation and peat harvesting into grassland and cities for the ever growing population. A recent court case has caused problems: farming, people and nature preservation (and what kind of nature?) cannot all continue. Politicians want to close farms, move food production outside the Netherlands where the rules are not so strict, but the farmers don’t agree. It is a complicated question, which has many strategic questions about the future of the Netherlands.
