Leiden – Hooigracht

The Hooigracht was a canal street, but the canal was filled up in 1681. The Hooigracht was a broad street between the Old and the New Rhine. Access to the Hooigracht on the north and south sides was limited by small streets and bridges. In the 1960s and 1970s breakthroughs were made to make the Hooigracht an north-south car road. There are frequent traffic jams. Now the Hooigracht is redeveloped again, first step is to cut all the trees.
