Leipzig 2017 – Plagwitz – Unruh und Liebig Maschinenfabrik

Founded in 1880, now known as Kirow Ardelt GmbH, in 1952 named after the Leningrad party secretar Sergei Mironowitsch Kirow.

Plagwitz was a small town on the outskirts of Leipzig, first named in 1483. In 1891 it became part of Leipzig. From 1854 it was transformed into a industrial area, with many factories, canals and railroad tracks. After the Wende most of the old factories were closed. Now the area is slowly redeveloping.
