Puxian is the bodhisattva of universal wisdom and a steady companion of Guanyin. The diety, dressed in a richly embroidered robe embellished with sumptuous chainwork, sits in Western fashion, legs pendant, on an elephant mount (no longer extant). Dates from 15th century, Ming dynasty, Yongji, Shanxi province.
