Originally built as the Zentralstadion in 1952–1956. It had a football pitch, but also a swimming pool, a field hockey pitch and a normal field. It was the biggest sportsfield in the GDR. Nowadays the stadium is called the Red Bull Arena and some the sport fields have fallen into disrepair.

The statue was made by Wilhelm Landgraf.
