Windmolen De Salamander

Windmill The Salamander. The Salamander was built in 1777 as a wood-sawing mill. It replaced an earlier mill from 1643, which had burnt down. It stopped sawing in 1953 and The Salamander detiorated. In 1974 a license to demolish the mill was granted, but a provision in the license, stating that the demolition could only take place by a certified miller (so that parts could be saved) probably saved the mill, because a controlled demolition by a certified miller would have costed a lot of money. In 1985 a foundation was established to save the mill. From 1989 to 1995 the windmill was restored to full working order.
