The game malie (known in English as pall mall) was played here in the old days on the right of the canal. Baan means court. Now the ground is used for the University Library and the Faculty of Arts.
There is also a Maliebaan in Utrecht, a Malieveld (Malie Field) in The Hague and a Pall Mall in London.
