Main Street, USA

Saturday Self-Challenge: Patriotism; What do you love about your country?

This is one of my favorite towns to visit, Havre de Grace, Maryland. If you enlarge on black, you will see the many details of this downtown district. There are similar streets like this in America that are a popular destination for social gatherings. Thankfully, even in a time of Covid and social distancing, we have found ways to safely socialize, such as outdoor dining as seen in this photo. There are many other things I love about my country like our State and National Parks, our freedom to move about as we like (although temporarily restricted due to the present circumstances).

In the photo below I found these duck decoys for sale at a local antique store. Being a marine town located at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, Havre de Grace is known for their decoy artisans. There is a decoy museum that tells the history of this craft and all the local artisans who carve the decoys. Though I do not like duck hunting, I love the decoys.

My fave for your PIP...
I saw streets like that when I travelled in the States last year, it was pleasant.

Valfal replied to Xata:

Thank you much, Isabel. I have to admit the picture doesn't do the street justice. It was so pleasant to walk the streets and be around people enjoying themselves (while staying safe, of course).

Oh, I'd just love to sit here and have lunch with you, Val. It looks like a really nice town.

The wooden decoys are really beautiful too. I had a friend who had an older decoy that she put on eBay and the final price was quite high. :)

Thanks, Karen, I would love to have lunch with you, too! You would enjoy the restaurants here. :-)

Good duck decoys can go for hundreds of dollars, especially if they were created by a famous craftsman.

I'm so pleased to hear that you are feeling safe in your home town. It does look nice and calm, and that people are adhering to social distances etc. I do enjoy the story at the end.
