Ghost Tree

Saturday Self-Challenge: Negative Space

I had an opportunity to visit Shenandoah National Park this week while away on vacation. Skyline Drive is famous for its scenic views of the Appalachian mountains. One thing we saw were many long-dead trees still standing. The American Chestnut was nearly wiped out by a fungus blight brought over on trees from Asia. The remains of one of these trees can be seen above silhouetted against the blue sky.

Very sad about the loss of the trees but the dead one makes a superb image

That's really pretty and looks so good large. I really like your use of negative space here, Val. :)

It's always sad to hear about trees being wiped out like this. Hopefully, they can recover their numbers.

Fine capture. The tree seems to support a roof formed by the clouds above.
(only if you could stand a little more to the right and held your camera a tiny bit more upward)
