Concord Point Lighthouse

Today I visited Havre de Grace, Maryland, a beautiful town located on the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. One of the landmarks I saw was Concord Point Lighthouse.

The lighthouse was built in 1827 where the Susquehanna River meets the tidal flow of the Chesapeake Bay. It is one of the oldest lighthouses in continuous operation on the East Coast. Fully restored, the Lighthouse and Keeper’s House are open to the public on weekends from April to October.

I had a chance to take a peek inside. Its solid granite stairs are narrow, and where they end there is an even narrower iron ladder that you must use to get up into the room where the light itself resides. The photos I posted below give you an idea of how small and narrow the stairwell is inside. It is not a climb for the faint of heart!

Beautiful photo. Nice effect of the lighthouse's lens: what's behind you is upside down.

What a great tour of this cool light house, Val. I love the look you got on the overcast day. Really nice. I like all your pics.

I actually had a rather frustrating day shooting. Most of my outdoor shots were blah, and the battery in my Nikon dslr died after taking only a few shots. So I had to use the phone camera. Thankfully, it does make for a good substitute. ;-)
