Thanks for your well wishes, Karen! My poor sister had to dig herself out of 8 inches of heavy wet snow yesterday (she lives in New Jersey, about 2 hours north of me). What a way to celebrate her 54th birthday! :(

At least this is really winter. The winter the US have is missed in Europe these days.. ;-) The meteologist telling it´s because of the USA - because they had a strong winter it´s common on the "other side of atlantic" it wasn´t this strong at all. So - can you please share a little bit of yours? ;-)) (just a little bit, we don´t need that much like you have)

I didn't know that if USA has a cold winter it affects Europe! I will be more than happy to share my winter with you. As cold as it is, at least it's providing me with many photo ops! Thanks for visiting!

Entschuldige, wenn ich auf deutsch weiter schreibe, aber es fällt mir schwer, diesen Sachverhalt in englisch zu formulieren:
Das Wetter ist, insgesamt gesehen, schon etwas globales, weltweites, was sich auch weltweit beeinflusst. Natürlich gibt es zwischen lokalen Hochdruckgebieten auch einige Tiefdruckgebiete, aber eines der beiden überwiegt über großen Kontinenten in der Regel (entweder "ganz" Amerika ist zur Zeit unter Hochdruckeinfluss, oder ein großes Tiefdruckgebiet überwiegt). Getrennt werden diese Gebiete dann meist von großen Ozeanen - in diesem Fall dem Atlantik. Wenn also über den USA hauptsächlich Tiefdruckgebiete vorherrschen (mit entsprechend viel Schneefall im Winter), so ist es in der Regel so, dass dann über dem europäischen Kontinent als "Ausgleich" dafür dann überwiegend Hochdruckgebiete vorherrschen - die in der Regel dann eher weniger Niederschlag (im Winter also meist Schnee) bedeuten. Das lässt sich auch wunderbar bei Fernsehsendern beobachten, die weltweite Wettervorhersagen machen...
Und über Europa ist dieser Winter relativ mild, zumeist mit Temperaturen oberhalb derer, wo Wasser gefriert. Und zumindest in meiner Ecke ist es dazu auch noch ungewöhnlich trocken, es fällt wenig Regen (die Engländer haben zur Zeit davon allerdings wohl etwas viel, da reicht scheinbar die Nordsee für diese Wettergrenze). Wir hatten hier diesen Winter bisher zwei mal Schneefall - einmal hat es dafür gereicht, die Dächer ganz leicht zu bedecken, das taute dann aber sofort wieder weg, ein zweites Mal war einige Tage der Boden ganz dünn mit ein wenig Schnee bedeckt - aber nichts, was ich als Winter bezeichnen würde.

The conditions have to be just right to produce this kind of icy beauty. As beautiful as it looks, it is a very dangerous condition, both for the trees and for power lines, not to mention travel if the roads are also icy! Thank you for your visit and for your comment! :)
