Common Buzzard / Buizerd (Buteo buteo)

And there was also this guy this morning. A beautifully light coloured Common Buzzard. He was a distance away and it's a bit of a crop, but he's so handsome that I've uploaded him anyway.

EDIT: I just learned that this particular bird is known by the local birders as "The White Buzzard of the Poppendammergouw" (the region where it resides). How cool is that?

Nothing common about the shot though! Love all the clear sky surrounding him. Most shots I've seen of buzzards are very uncomplimentary, but this one looks majestic...like an eagle.

Oh, Buzzards are great looking birds! Although in the Americas birds of the genus Buteo are called Hawks. Different nomenclature again! I wish they would stop doing that as it's confusing.

I just found out that this particular Buteo buteo is a bit of a rarity and known as "The White Buzzard of the Poppendammergouw" (the latter is the specific region in Waterland where it resides and is said to probably have a nest). It is unusually white coloured. But he is beautiful, isn't he?

Thanks very much, Jim.
