Love the eye contact! They are a beautiful bird...quite common in your neck of the woods? Also have to marvel at the grass in the bottom right corner. I am such a sucker for natural droplets on plants etc. Beautiful dewy morn!

Levina de Ruijter replied to Jim Boynton:

Thanks very much, Jim! A large part of the world population (and as much as 90% of the nord-western European population) of these birds breed in the Netherlands, so if you leave the city and go out into the fields chances are you will find them. However, for a number of reasons the population has been reduced by half in the last 2 decades and a program has been started to increase their numbers. They are a striking bird, very beautiful. Great flyers too and very verbal!
I like the droplets on the grass too. That's what you get when you're out that early. I'm surprised there aren't any slugs in the pics as they were everywhere too! :)
