I prefer the colour original, but I myself think that it does. The composition (either way round) is strong enough to justify a monochrome version, especially as in the latter the sunlit grass appears to be frost-covered. It certainly isn't a D.
Very D in my opinion, as the monochrome simply emphasises a hotchpotch of lines going in all directions, rather than any main focus of interest. Whereas the coloured version is very good, apart from needing a slight crop to the south.
