If you had done that, the boat and building would have been your 'lead-in' to the wooded ridge above. But I personally think it would make a better picture to forget about the wooded ridge and have the boat and building as the main point of interest. In Roy's suggested crop, you still get the impression of a high ridge beyond, without needing to show the actual height of it. Sometimes things are better left to the imagination.
