Death of a Princess (6) - 20 March 2018

In March 2018 the sad but, arguably, inevitable scrapping of the SRN4 hovercraft 'The Princess Margaret' commenced. Some parts had been removed from this long time resident of the Hovercraft Museum at Lee on Solent to be used for 'The Princess Anne', now the sole survivor of the six SRN4s built.

For the transport enthusiast and supporter of preservation, any such event is hard to watch and it seemed truly brutal as the excavator tore bits off a once imposing machine.

Not at all happy about this scrapping.
Once something is gone, it's gone.
Just hope this destruction will mean that the Princess Anne will continue, and as the last member of the class, it should - no, must - survive.

The intention is, or was at the time the scrapping decision was made, that The Princess Anne will survive and, in the words of the Museum website, 'will become our flagship exhibit (here) at the Hovercraft Museum. I sincerely hope this is what happens.
