Birdie Gilmore
Birdie Gilmore was an early black female film pioneer. She was the author of the play, "Jungle God" which was produced by the Delsarte Film Company, a black independent film company in New York City. In 1920 the great African American actor Clarence Muse became one of the founding directors, for which he wrote, produced, and starred in several films (1920-1921), including Toussaint L'Ouverture and The Sport of Gods, based on a story by Paul Laurence Dunbar. He was supported in these films by members of the Lafayette Players.
