The coastline along the south side of the island from the bay right up to Blackgang is a great place for fossil hunting, there is a museum in Sandown showing a great many of the fossils that have been found there. If memory serves me right there are some dinosaur footprints in the rocks at Compton bay.
Of course I am biased but I find it interesting especially through the changing weathers and seasons.
There is also a museum at the bay called Dimbola Lodge it is dedicated to the Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron, she was friends with Tennyson and quite often took pics of him as well as "volunteering" locals for portraits.
A small island maybe but so much history
