I haven't seen one of these for ages.......we used to have a bottle brush tree in our garden, but it died (possibly after a bit of over-enthusiastic pruning)!

Thank you very much for your kind words sir you are a gent. This plant is 33 years old and was grown from seed!! Getting the seeds is a bit of a problem as you have to get the pod and then expose it to extreme heat which explodes the pod letting the tiny seeds out.

I suspect your milder weather on the island has something to do with it lasting long!

Thank you Güni, yes it was frosty this morning but not -12 degrees! that is too cold for me if I went out in that it would give me angina :(
