The Spanish City, now a dining and entertainment centre in Whitley Bay in the North East of England, is referenced throughout the Dire Strait song "Tunnel of Love". At the time of the song’s release, it was a funfair with fair rides and other amusements.

Whitley Bay is also the home of Ann Cleeves, the creator of the crime series "Vera". Several of the murders in that series took place on the beach here.

I am aware that this is not a great photograph technically. However it is interesting for me because I used to live nearby.
