Winter Commute 6

Now I finally have the Bar Mitts. I see my front wheel was sporting my flashing, swirling, Monkey Lights that my son Colin sent me for Christmas that year (2015). It was pretty fun.

Sorry, Steve, I’m so terrible with social media I forget to check back.
I’m forever in a bubble of self.

You can wrap rope or a chain around any bike that has disk brakes, as long as you have clearance. When I was about 12, a neighbor did this on our street. They hadn’t invented disk brakes for bikes back then, so he just took his regular (caliper) brakes off. The whole idea worked well for the pedaling part, but our street was hilly, and near-death experiences came often.

I used Nokian W106 studded tires in this photo, just as I do now. They seem to be perfect for snowy and icy streets an highways around here. 106 carbide studs per tire; just enough to be safe without being too heavy.
