Atelier Lumieres Van Gogh

I was fortunate to see the Atelier des Lumières Vincent van Gogh digital exhibition in Paris in 2019. The show was so crowded and I was frustrated taking my photos until I finally realized that instead of 'fighting' the crowds' I could make the audience the best part of the photo. The people on the balcony viewing area made such lovely silhouettes. I learned a lot that day about going with the flow.

In museums (with the exception of open-air museums), if photography is allowed at all, you will rarely find good conditions for taking photos without reflections, without a suitable viewing angle or with suitable lighting conditions.

You're right! It can be a great source of frustration, but even with these limitations there is a feeling of satisfaction that you've been able to photograph beautiful works of art. I wish though, that galleries and museums would have one day a week without any cameras, so we could all go back to standing and looking at works of art without the endless selfies!

Thank you for your interest to add it to the A Story Behind the Photograph. Please, understand there should be a story attached (a short paragraph of an original text) -- I will be glad to include your photos which meet that condition. Have a good day

I cut and pasted my original comments so it's now part of the photo description, so I think this is closer to what you wanted, but if not, that's not a problem not to post the photo. I like the idea that you're exploring in this group.

Yes, thank you. And I appreciate to have the opportunity to learn an original story - it's often we want the 'perfect' photo without people. And later we see, there's just buildings or whatever. I believe that photography in first place is to document the moment in the interesting/original way.

Welcome on board, and keep sharing your stories along the photographs.

superb! great idea to go with what was happening. our pre-conceived ideas can get in the way sometimes (a lot of the time?). i love that you've created art from art! recursive art is fascinating, i think. and the people you caught in silhouette are really great.

would you add it to my group 'pure art'?

You bet I will add it to your group, I'm honoured to be asked. This will always be one of my favourite photos, I had the image made into a small canvas print and I've also printed in on to tissue paper for gift giving!
