the clean up job

The clean up of the polychromous marble external decorations of Florence's Duomo has been taking years. In this shot, the restoration team had borrowed an industrial crane to work their painstaking magic on the corniche of intricate marble rosettes. A whale of a job!

Thank you, Judite. I really like it when photographers give a good description of their photos, so I try to do this myself whenever I can. Have a nice week end!

You are right, Malona. If I turn it to black and white the crane practically disappears!

Annalia S. replied to Jaap van 't Veen:

Thank you, Jaap. The details of the Duomo exterior were so obscured by the accumulated grime of centuries, that its beauty, color and intricacy has been a rediscovery even for people like me who have lived in Florence for many years, and even for the Florentines themselves!

Considering the many visitors, this is probably a better method than building large scaffolding for it...

Annalia S. replied to ©UdoSm:

Actually they use both methods. There is currently one such scaffolding in another area. I think they used the cherry picker here because the corniche runs along the entire side horizontally. I saw it used also for cleaning out the "lantern" above the nearby Baptistry, which could not be reached by way of scaffolding. Thank you for your interest, Udo!
