Stacking rocks like this must be a thing, because I saw a stack like this at the nearby Garden of the Gods park here in Southern Illinois. I don't know what it could mean or symbolize, though. A really nice shot of these rocks, too!

I'm very ambivalent about it. On the one hand it looks beautiful, on the other hand people don't think about where they build something like that. In the mountains, it can be quite dangerous if the towers fall over and stones tumble into the depths.

Originally they were probably markers in the terrain, but like many things it becomes too much at some point and it harms more than it helps or is art. It's like the unspeakable locks on bridges. At some point it is no longer beautiful.
