A brief history of Tate Hill Pier

This pier in Whitby is possibly the oldest in England. It was the original access to the harbour. Formed from the ancient East Pier, it was formerly known as Burgess Pier. Its original name likely came from its construction by the Burgesses of Whitby before the appointment of trustees for the pier.
