Large Unknown Building in the Neustadt Baroque Quarter, Dresden, Saxony, Germany, 2011

One new discovery that I made on this visit was the restoration effort on the so-called "Baroque Quarter" of Dresden. Calling it a Baroque Quarter is a bit misleading, though, as most of the more famous buildings in Dresden date to the Baroque period, like the Zwinger Palace, etc. However, most of the more famous buildings were in the Altmarkt, which was destroyed in the Dresden firebombing, so they are wholly or partially rebuilt from scratch. The Baroque Quarter is far more original, although the restoration going on as of 2011 had to be thorough, as neglect had also taken its toll. This building, which was very large for the Baroque period and may not have been that old, was still awaiting restoration during my visit. It had a lot of lettering from past owners visible on the sides, though, which appeared to have been stripped in preparation for restoration.
