In the Year 1100 past Christ this tree is documented - In this old documents the estimated age of this Lime tree was 250 years. Sometimes this lime tree is called the oldest in Germany and sometimes the oldest all over the world. In the times 850 past christ was just the time when big oak trees which are important for belief in Germanic Gots are cut down. Instead of this tree often a lime tree is planted (then called "Marienlinde") . It is feasible that you here see just this tree. And just in the background you see in the neighborship of this Tree the Church of the village.
Later in the mediaeval under this gigant tree is the location where court hearings took place.
Just 100 years ago Childen play in the cave - that the form the lime tree and spark a fire with straw and other materials in it.
This tree is located in the little village Upsted in Hildesheim County. The Autobahn from Kassel to Hamburg is not far. At this place a hike path with about 4 km lenth is discribed :-) and it is nice to stay in the mountanious surround for one day - you will see half timbered houses in Bad Salzdetfurth e.g.
