A street sign on a recent previous posting mentioned Maine's "Bold Coast" ... here's part of it, and the rest looks very similar to this section.

I couldn't find where the name originated. Always thought it came from some organization trying to boost the usually scanty tourism, but that may be incorrect: There is a reference from an 1820 island survey to a "bold shore".
