A fine old bridge.... but what does the fence stands for? Preventing boats from passing underneath?
At least it doesn't seem to disturb the swans...

That's a relevent question Isabel,.>. water flowing under the bridge travels to the 'Trent river Weir' where within a few metres there is a fall of water over the weir,.. thus the fence prevents any water surface objects from meeting mild disaster at the falls.
