I took this photo of the Strait of Messina from the plane window.
The Strait is a narrow passage separating Sicily from the Italian mainland, measuring only 3.1 km at its narrowest point.
Famed for its strong currents and breathtaking views, this stretch of sea is steeped in ancient myth as the home of Scylla and Charybdis.
Due to this very short distance, the project for a permanent bridge has been at the center of engineering and political debates for decades.
