OK, Nick I have the answer! Following day, and I see the news for the first time in a couple of days! I didn't realise the celebrations for her Maj's 70 years on the throne were taking place now! I thought they weren't until the height of summer!
So that is the reason for the beacon!

Yes Andy, you have understood and explained that this is one of a chain of beacons lit to celebrate the Queen's seventy years reign platinum anniversary

We didn't have a beacon, but there was a spotlight on the Union Flag on the top of our church tower.
