But in Switzerland it is 17:15hrs on this day.

Glad you can read these things Peter, they always seem to defy me! Great catch here.

Thank you Herb,

I found it in a park near the lake, so I am pleased that you have enjoyed it. Thanks to Nick (below) for the explanation.

I would guess 3 o'clock but I'm obviously looking in the wrong place! I feel at one with Herb here! Agree with him that it's a great shot though!

Thank you Andy

Glad you like it. My idea was to match the colour of the flowers, and the sundial..
Thanks to Nick (below) for the explanation.

The shadow of the sun is the marker for the time and the double bar shows midday ~ It is a beautiful suvdial and a colourful picture

Thank you Nick

Both for you kind comments, and for your explanation.
Of course the final part of the story is that sundials can't change the hour for 'summer time' hence during summer it is an hour slow.

It does then beg the question, "What time would a sundial show at 4pm of Christmas day?"

Thank you so much!
I just happened to see this in a public park. As you might guess, I was very interested in the timepiece!

I am happy that you enjoyed the sundial. Of course the sundial is calibrated for winter time, and we add the hour for daylight saving. which I guess is why it doesn't actually say '4' (or '5') so as to avoid further confusion!
