Dumbarton
The Peter Denny Statue in Dumbarton is a Category B listed monument on Church Street, commemorating Sir Peter Denny — one of the most important figures in Dumbarton’s shipbuilding history. It stands beside the Municipal Buildings and is formally recognised by Historic Scotland for its cultural significanc.
Peter Denny (1822–1895), was a partner in the world‑famous Denny shipbuilding firm of Dumbarton. He was a leading figure in Denny Brothers, the shipyard that made Dumbarton internationally famous. He was also a pioneer in ship design, testing tanks, and marine engineering. His family's shipyard was a major employer in 19th‑century Dumbarton.
The statue reflects his importance to the town’s industrial heritage.
