Yes I can imagine the fear of the sailors having reached land, but not being able to get over the rocks - certainly not being able to scale those cliffs. This is a fabulous picture of the rocky coastline.

It looks so benign in calm, summery weather, doesn't it!
But there are horror stories here, not least of wrecking, a practice that the locals here, and all along the coast, gleefully participated in, namely grabbing anything of value from the wreck and if there were survivors, kill them and steel their jewellery etc. Some say 'tweren't so. Most however, think it was indeed the case!
