Mercado de Maravillas!

This is my local covered market. It's one of the biggest and best value markets in Madrid.
I wanted to take a number of photos but only took this one, as yet again I was stopped by security and told in no uncertain terms that photography is prohibited (What is it with Spain on matters such as this? I wish I knew!). I wanted to take much more interesting photos than this!

Turkey has the same wariness about photos in public places too. I can't imagine why, I can understand why not in airports, but in a market? Mind you, there have been bombs going off in markets etc and maybe they associated your camera with a possible bomb threat. Anyway - it's a lovely market with really full displays of food, especially fish and fruit. It looks very clean and tidy, which is what I've come to associate with Spain's main thoroughfares, through your photos

Andy Rodker replied to Jenny McIntyre:

The food is good quality and good value. The top restaurants come here very early in the morning to buy. This photo shows about 1/10 of the market!
I presume the no photography thing is a hangover from Franco times, as with a lot else here!
Thank you, Jenny!

Schitterende opname,Andy.
Hartelijke groeten...........Frans,

A lovely candid shot Andy.............I like the warm colours. I like to see photos of people just going about their daily business.

Andy Rodker replied to Keith Burton:

Yes, No one is 'on display' here, Keith!
Same with with me. I was probably wearing non matching trainers with shorts and a tank top and a Parka because it was winter but as all I was doing was going to the market to buy some fish, I didn't thing I was going to bump into my hi-falluting senior management students!
One day I will be caught out, for sure!! :o)

I don't think it's banned in the Market but it is in the Highcross Shopping Centre maybe it's easier than banning tripods

Andy Rodker replied to Peter Castell:

Highcross Shopping Centre? No idea ... but from what you say, Peter are they maybe just a little bit up themselves?
