Granadilla, abandoned town, main square (Cacares Province, Extremadura).

Abandoned due to a 1950s reservoir drowning its farmland. Now a (minor) tourist destination and a few people work here in the summer catering for the few tourists and keeping the place tidy. But there are no restaurants or shops (not such a bad thing!) and although the fields and orchards found between the walls are still tended, no one lives here any more.

Perfect for photography..............no pesky people around to get in the way of your shot!

I looks really lovely Andy................and you've used the columns and the tree to frame the shot nicely. Love it.

Andy Rodker replied to Keith Burton:

Thank you, Keith. There were some people around but I waited a bit and they cleared off (not that I am against people in my shots)!

What a dreadful shame that no-one lives here anymore. Isn't it safe to live there? I'm pleased to see that someone is bothering to keep it looking good.

Andy Rodker replied to Jenny McIntyre:

This is the same place we discussed a few photos ago Jenny, about the 1950s reservoir. It's totally safe, just no longer economically viable for the population.
In fact more than 50% of Spain's villages and even towns in some cases have been left derelict because of the 150 year relentless drive to find work which means moving to the cities.

I wouldn't mind staying in a resort like that. It looks so peaceful.
