San Pedro el Viejo, Madrid

Reputedly the oldest church in continuous use in Madrid. Thoughts that it might have started off as a mosque are understandable but seem ill-founded.

Lovely urban photo, Andy. It's is possible that the church could have at one time been a mosque, as there were times when Spain was overrun by the Moors

Andy Rodker replied to Jenny McIntyre:

As in my notes, recent thinking is that this wasn't originally a mosque but started life as a church, However, Moorish architectural styles were still common which perhaps accoiunts for it.
Thank you, Jenny!
