Ce n'est pas tante problème de la consommation de viande ou non que je soulève ici, que les conditions d'abattage des animaux. Etant « végétarien non pratiquant », moi aussi je cautionne quelque part ces mises à mort. En Europe, des lois imposent l'étourdissement pour limiter la souffrance des animaux de boucherie. De très nombreuses dérogations sont cependant accordées pour l’abattage rituel par égorgement en pleine conscience de l’animal. Si vous avez le cœur bien accroché, allez voir les vidéos de l’association L214 pour voir le fonctionnement des abattoirs où chaque année plus de 3 millions d’animaux sont mis à mort. Ames sensibles s’abstenir. Bonne canicule.

The cruel way people in general treat animals that serve their interests is shocking. However, what you have so vividly documented here pales in comparison to the misery that animals endure in many meat processing plants and industrial slaughterhouses.

Given the pervasive human brutality, the question of why you’re still not a vegetarian basically answers itself.

To minimize the risk of boring your readers, I will limit myself to the following comment. ;)

I understood from your image description that what touches your heart is the animals’ awareness of their impending death.

Unfortunately, their suffering does not begin only when they become aware of their impending death, i.e., on the way to slaughter, but often enough already during their time being raised, as many of us know.

Therefore, a solution that serves the well-being of all could be to resist the meat industry's greed for profit and its misleading propaganda, and consume less meat. This reduces animal suffering, eases the burden on the environment, and, not least, benefits human health.

However, my optimism that reason will triumph is limited since even the much-vaunted love of animals has not yet managed to do so. ;)

Moi, je ne me fais aucune illusion. On va continuer à développer les élevages intensifs au nom du profit et de la croissance. Ni la maltraitance animale, ni la nécessité vitale pour l'humanité de préserver l'environnement, ne comptent pour le capitalisme.En France, il y a plusieurs projets de relocalisation d'élevages intensifs de poulet (21 volailles par mètre carré). Les promoteurs de ces projets veulent nous faire croire que c'est bon pour l'environnement puisque ça limite les transports. Je pense que les poulets sont d'un autre avis. En tout cas, les habitants à proximité de ces poulaillers géants ne sont pas d'accord et organisent la résistance. Il va falloir attendre la disparition de l'humanité pour que les poules et les bovins trouvent un peu de tranquillité :-))

Apparently, the number of broiler chickens permitted per square meter in intensive livestock breeding does not differ – or differs only slightly – from country to country. Yet, such figures should shock us all.

Perhaps we do not have to wait for the extinction of humanity, but rather the extinction of indifference, before poultry, cattle, and other animals can find peace. :)

I can only hope that opponents of intensive animal farming, both in France and elsewhere, succeed in their efforts and also pay attention to their own meat consumption. Only then will they be authentic and their resistance credible. Otherwise, the problem of the extensive keeping of animals will simply be shifted elsewhere.
