Originally built in 1150 A.D. this stave church was located then near Sogn, Norway. It was moved to to its present location in 1883 when threatened with destruction after a new church was built in Sohn. In 1992 the Fantoft Church was destroyed by arson, part of series of church burnings by members of the Norwegian black metal movement. The man who burned this church was convicted of four other church burnings in the Bergen area. The church was completely rebuilt soon thereafter taking six years to complete. We visited the church as we left Bergen to go to Trolltunga.
