Pileated Woodpecker

The last time I was in Washington Park I not only saw a Pileated Woodpecker but managed to get pictures. It was so busy knocking chunks out of an old tree that it allowed me to get quite close. I should add that this is our largest woodpecker, a huge bird that is as big or larger than a crow.

He was making a real racket, Roxanne, and had chips and chunks of wood flying from the tree.

Luv these big woodpeckers... See them sometimes near my vacation home in PA. They're very shy, though. Nice capture!
