On one of our many trip back from eastern Washington, we took Highway 97 through Blewett Pass, between Ellensburg and Leavenworth, and detoured to drive the 10 miles of the Old Blewett Road, a road that is no longer maintained but that is a treasury of wildflowers, native orchids and butterflies. On this trip there were butterflies everywhere including hundreds of these Snowberry Checkerspots (Euphydryas colon) just where you would expect to find them, on the Creeping Snowberry plants and flowers.
