Not an oistrich

They say oistriches hide their heads in the sand in case of imminent danger... That may be something for oistriches, not for a fearless dachshund.

However, during many a winter, experience has taught Robbie that the most interesting things can be found under the snow. It’s about 4-6 inches thick, and still comfortable for him. With more snow, he has to move by jumping, which he can’t keep up for long.

Half an inch? That’s not “snow”, we call that “hoarfrost”! :-)

Due to my reluctance to take new lessons etc., I bought a lightweight 45km/h scooter:

The Yamaha Neo’s in “mistral grey”. Part of the attraction is, of course, a forthcoming gag on the AlphaSmart Forum...
When I was very young, 35 years ago, I was an enthusiastic moped rider, and I think this will be fun, one day. (My first ride home was hazardous, given the weather, and I was glad we both survived unharmed!)

Thank you, Sherry! Robbie is a sweet and exasperating dog.

Actually, the scooter is called “Neo’s”, which I find very strange... I can’t even say “I now have two Neo’s”! But I might say “My and my AlphaSmart Neo’s new Yamaha Neo’s”.

The Puch was the chopper kind of machine, wasn’t it? It used to be very popular in the Netherlands, as was the Tomos (a licensed sister model from Yugoslavia). I’m afraid I rode a Vespa Ciao myself... My father had bought it for my mother, but it appeared to be too temperamental for her, so it was passed to me. I dearly loved it, but I had to give it up when I went to university. Embarking upon a study was deemed expensive enough without a Vespa, and apart from that, it coincided with the (then new) obligation to wear a helmet, which I thought would look ridiculous. Well, you know it does.

The Yamaha is much less a toy, and after some (legal) modifications has some 4.5hp at its disposal. If it doesn’t disappoint me, I might get me a motorcycle license after all. There’s no hurry, though.
