Spamburger, made in Hamburg by a native Hamburger

We invented Hamburger long time ago and bring them to America. They were a great success, all over the world want people Hamburger now.
In exchange with Hamburger we will had get Spam. At first we don´t know what to do with it, but Hamburger are smart people. We had potatoes already, so we decided to smash the spam with some additionally (cucumber etc.) ingredients. This was a big mess.

We call this mess "Labskaus", now it is a meal for complete Northern Germany, and maybe it will for the whole world someday, like our Hamburgers.

The best you can do with Spam is to smash it, so something tastefully will be the result again. We have great experience with such inventions here. I prefer to crush Spam so something tastefully will be the result, just like our Labskaus.
Not everybody will loving our result which we got by using this Spam, so they are deny the use of it. These are smart people, too.

Others which don´t like to smash Spam with potatoes and cucumber will have a "Saure-Gurken-Zeit" (sour-cucumber-season) from now on as we call it here. Maybe in your area this time was named "slack season", "silly season" or "dead season" or just "Flickr", I don´t know, but everyone who is loving this site and follow their rules will make (new) friends here.
A plate of Labskaus will help to let your friends stay longer at ipernity. So stop using spam without potatoes and cucumber, not smashed. I think it won´t taste this good.

I thought Spam is already a smashed meat =P

Now I know where the Labskaus comes from =D I have born in a small town called Rauma, in the west coast of Finland, and there it is a traditional food especially among sailors. According to story I heard, the chef on board just put the meat and potatoes into a large pot, tied it to the stove, and let it stir there for hours while ship rocked in the waves. And voilà! Labskaus you got! Except, in Rauma dialect they call it Lapskoussi.

David: As I said, there are enough, even for you. ;-)

Of course, spam was already smashed, but then squished in a can so you have t smash it again. At least to mix it with the stuffed potatoes.

Ah, and great to hear our Labskaus has made it already to Finland - as I had said, it will make his way trough the world, like the Hamburger, like everything from Hamburg.
Did you heard about "Currywurst" also? Some guys are telling you it was founded in Berlin, but that´s wrong, in Berlin this sausage lost his sausage casing - each sausage need it, otherwisse it was something like Ćevapi - well, the german sausage called Currywurst was of course invented in Hamburg. :o)

Yes, I know Spam. It was big in England years ago when I was stationed there. We still eat it but your recipe sounds good!

It is. It´s roasted spam (ok, it was meat...), with striped bacon and a boiled egg... added with a little bit salad and dried roast onions, supplied with a little bit cheese (not to much, otherwise you won´t taste the bacon) and a downlayer of ketchup.
