In Tashkurgan, Xinjiang, China. High in the Pamir Mountains at 3500m, Tashkurgan is the last town in China on the Karakoram Highway before the border with Pakistan at the 4800m Khunjerab Pass. The mountains in the background are the Pamirs, and the climb to Pakistan. When I first visited Tashkurgan in 2000, it was a village on a rough dirt road ( the then Karakoram Highway). It had a village inn and a dusty market street. It is now a regional centre with large new buildings, dozens of very modern hotels, traffic lights and busy streets. Lots of giant solar panel arrays power the town today.
Such a change. I admired the bold colour if the car against the snowy backdrop.
