Coltsfoot is one of the earliest spring flowers, and the silky seed heads after flowering are lovely too. The common name comes from the leaf's supposed resemblance in shape to a colt's foot. The Latin name, Tussilago farfara, is derived from the Latin tussis, meaning cough, and ago. The laves were used to cure lung diseases at one point.
