Autocar (what?)

I thought this was a joke, but there really is a truck manufacturer called Autocar. No, they don't make cars. This one is old, probably 1970s or 80s.

Super image. I really like the "in your face" perspective and composition.

Diane Putnam replied to Léopold:

Oh, I didn't notice that - funny! Yes, it looks like it. Too lazy to change it, I guess.

Léopold replied to Diane Putnam:

To broke perhaps too Diane.

Diane Putnam replied to Léopold:

That is more likely. Don't those tires cost about hundreds of dollars each?

Léopold replied to Diane Putnam:

They cost a lot of money for sure but most of truck's drivers use a kind of recycled cover on them.
I don't know how you call them. Sort of cap ?

I found it with a google search finally Diane:

Tire recappers.

Stick the exhaust pipe above the height of the roof and you will have Denis Weaver driving for his life again!

Really? Whatever movie you're referring is one I've never seen. ;-o

Thank you, Andy!

Diane Putnam replied to Léopold:

Yes, more commonly called re-treads. Some states don't allow certain types on commercial trucks.

You made me look....Autocar is (was) a very old producer of cars and trucks, started in 1899. They stopped making cars in 1911 and made trucks ever since. They've been bought out by various companies over the years but are now again independent. In the article their trucks are described as 'severe-duty' (very heavy loads). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autocar_Company

Diane Putnam replied to Don Barrett (aka DBs…:

That sounds like the chaotic ownership history of several auto and truck mfrs. I've read about, Jeep, for one. Severe-duty sounds pretty serious,

Léopold replied to Diane Putnam:

Very dangerous et threatening too on highways. Once, we got very close to get a piece of this one on highway 90 between Syracuse and Ohio state in 2010. I decided to pass this truck with re-treads and I saw this killer piece flying away right behind it at high speed. We were just behind this truck 10 second before. I never follow trucks too long since then and if I have to, I keep a long distance between them and us most particularly when we are in motorcycle,

Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather, Diane!
I'm astonished! One of the most famous films from Stateside in Britain is Spielberg's first main feature and the one that made his name.
Called 'Duel'.

Diane Putnam replied to Léopold:

Yes, they do have that reputation! If you follow on a motorcycle, that can be fatal. ;-o
