Front St. is a common name here and occurs to me it's usually associated with a body of water, as in waterfront, I assume. The above Front St. is along the shore of Klamath Lake. (See map.)
Well, we have a Front St here (looks nothing like that) and also a 'Longest Rd' .. which is not .. checked out .. needs to be renamed Not The Longest Rd ..
Will have to check to see if we have a Back St around here ..
Somewhere in the world, there must be a Back Street! Just for fun I searched on Google Earth. There were quite a lot with the name, but most were businesses, like bars, hair salons...and one Back Street on the Isle of Lewis, UK, near the village of Back! Wow, Andy can visit and report on it for us.
Houses on Front St one town over -- very elegant homes... built in late 1800s and early 1900s. I might .. might be able to afford a door knob !
A friend and her husband found a corner home - with huge -- really huge yard on sale many moons ago. After buying it, they worked on fixing it up. When money ran out, they waited until they earned and saved up more before starting again.
The most fascinating thing she showed me when I visited here after they got moved in -- in the dining room was a 'button on the floor' ... it summoned the butler !
They did start taking in roomers (Elon College students) to help with the remodeling.
Would love to see what it is like now ... doubt she would remember me ..
Oh, no water ..
If you pay me the return fare, all living expenses and recompense me for loss of earnings, then I will gladly go and find out more and report back, Diane! :o)
Andy, if I had the money for all of that I'd go live in Back myself! I happen to fantasize about solitude and severe North Sea weather, so the Isle of Lewis seems like just the ticket.
